Indications:
Heat in LU injuring the LU yin and qi causing afternoon fever, wheezing, cough, or sticky, scanty
phlegm (heat injuring LU), dry mouth and throat, and skin feeling
warm to touch. T: red with scanty or yellow coat; P: thin rapid.
This formula is good for children because the 2
main herbs are sweet and cold instead of the usual bitter and
cold, although it may be too cold for some with spleen deficiency
(even after sang bai pi and gan cao are fried, and geng mi is
added to protect the spleen), these aspects also make xie bai
san useful when it is hard to determine whether a condition is
excess or deficiency.
This can be used for such conditions as
bronchitis, pneumonia, pertussis, late stage flu.
Analysis: King sang bai pi drains heat
from the lungs and calm wheezing and cough. Di gu pi the
secondary herb clears heat from deficiency.
