Indications:
Wind heat and damp with
preexisting damp heat lodged in the skin and muscles. This causes
an itchy, weepy rash, or bleeding under the skin (purpura) with
heat or wind intolerance. T: yellow or white coating; P: forceful,
floating and rapid.
Herbal analysis:
jing jie, fang feng,
niu bang zi, and chan tui (kings) expel external
wind from the skin thus relieving itching. The ministers cang
zhu dries damp, ku shen clears damp/heat, and mu
tong drains damp/heat through diuresis. The other ministers
shi gao and zhi mu clear heat in the qi level which
inhibits the condition from going deeper. The assistants sheng
di huang cools blood, dang gui nourishes and
invigorates blood, and hei zhi ma nourishes the blood and
moistens. Gan cao, the deputy, clears heat and toxicity
while harmonizing the actions of the other herbs.
NOTES;
Two other formulas go by this name, type II (Elminate
Wind Powder from Imperial Grace Formulary) and type III (Eliminate
Wind Powder from Effective Formulas). Type II is for wind damp
with qi stagnation and type III for wind heat with pre-existing
head and lumps.
