Indications:
Heat and water accumulation in the
lower jiao (BL) with slight taiyang symptoms (wind cold); or SP qi
deficiency with damp and water causing edema in the
skin or muscle layer. Symptoms include 1) headache, fever,
irritable, strong thirst but with vomiting immediately after
drinking, urinary difficulty, floating pulse. 2) edema,
generalized sensation of heaviness, diarrhea, urinary difficulty,
vomiting and diarrhea due to sudden turmoil. 3) throbbing
pulsations just below the umbilicus, vomiting frothy saliva,
vertigo, shortness of breath, coughing. P: stikcy white or
yellow coat; T: slippery or superficial.
Modern use:
edema due to heart, spleen or kidney
diseases; inflammation of the kidneys; asthma; edema during
pregnancy; ascites due to cirrhosis of liver; water retention in
face and limbs, difficulty in urination.
