- Da huang
should be added during the last 3-5 minutes of the decoction
process. Mang xiao should be added to the strained tea.
Indications:
Blood stagnation with fire in the lower jiao causing constipation, acute
low abdominal pain, incontinence, night fevers, thirst,
dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, instestinal obstruction, or melena. In
severe cases, this may lead to restlessnes, or even delirium. In
addition,
blood stasis accumulates in the
lower burner and transforms into heat, which disturbs the spirit
leading to
delirious speech, irritability, restlessness,
and manic behavior.

Note:
This should not be confused with the abdominal pain of yang ming
bowel heat, which is felt over the entire abdomen.
Contraindication: do not use during pregnancy.
