Function: tonifies Liver Heart blood

Composition: 

 
Dang Gui
 Angelica
10 g
 
Shu Di Huang
 Rehmannia
15 g
 
Bai Shao
 Paeonia
12 g
 
Chuan Xiong
 Ligusticum
6 g
Indications: Blood deficiency with blood stagnation.  Symptoms include irregular menses, pain during periods, fetus overactive, excessive bleeding during menopause, clotted blood not clearing after giving birth, and other blood deficiency and/or blood stasis conditions.  T: pale or purple; P: thin or choppy

Modifications:

  • Jia wei si wu tang (emphasis on blood stagnation)
  • Tao hong si wu tang
  • Jie du si wu tang (damp heat)

Contra-indications: Inappropriate for acute, severe blood loss or other problems of blood deficiency which include severe weakness and labored breathing. (Use dang gui bu xue tang)
