Formulas for abscess (yong yang)

 

 

Xian Fang Huo Ming Yin

Indications: early stage sores and carbuncles with red swollen hot painful skin lesions, usually accompanied by fever, mild chills, headache, thin tongue coat (white or yellow), rapid forceful pulse.

 

Wu Wei Xiao Du Yin

  • clears Heat, detoxifies, cools blood, reduces swelling
  • Yi Zong Jin Jian
  • Jin Yin Hua (flos lonicerae japonicae)…9g
  • Pu Gong Ying (herba taraxaci mongolici cum radice)…3.6g
  • Zi Hua Di Ding (herba cum radice violae yedoensitis)…3.6g
  • Ye Ju Hua (flos chrysanthemi indici)…3.6g
  • Zi Bei Tian Kuei (herba begoniae fimbristipulatae)…3.6g
     

Indications: all types of boils and carbuncles with localized erythema, swelling, heat and pain with fever chills, red tongue with yellow coat, rapid pulse. Used for deep rooted and hard lesions which resemble nails or chestnuts.

 

Yang He Tang

  • warms Yang, tonifies blood, expels Cold, unblocks stagnation
  • Wai Ke Zheng Zhi Quan Sheng Ji
  • Shu Di Huang (radix rehmanniae glutinosae conquitae)…30g
  • Lu Jiao Jiao (colla cornu cervi)…9g
  • Rou Gui (cortex cinnamomi)…3g
  • Pao Jiang (quick fried rhizoma zingiberis officinalis)…1.5g
  • Bai Jie Zi (semen sinapis albae)…6g
  • Ma Huang (herba ephedrae)…1.5g
  • Gan Cao (radix glycyrrhizae uralinsis)…3g
     

Indications: localized painful swellings without heads that blend into the surrounding tissue and do not affect the texture or colour of the skin, not hot to the touch, no thirst, pale tongue, deep thin forceless pulse.

 

Wei Jing Tang

  • clears Lung Heat, transforms Phlegm, moves Blood Stasis, discharges pus
  • Qian Jin Yao Fang
  • Lu Gen (rhizoma phragnitis communis)…30g
  • Yi Yi Ren (semen coicis lachryma-jobi)…30g
  • Dong Gua Ren (semen benincasae hispidae)…24g
  • Tao Ren (semen persicae)…9g
     

Indications: cough with foul smelling sputum that may be streaked with blood, slight fever, mild chest pain, dry scaly skin, red tongue with greasy yellow coat, slippery rapid pulse.

 

Da Huang Mu Dan Pi Tang

  • drains Heat, breaks up Blood Stasis, disperses clumping, reduces swelling
  • Jin Gui Yao Lue
  • Da Huang (radix and rhizoma rhei)…12g
  • Mang Xiao (mirabilitum0…9-12g  [dissolve in strained decoction]
  • Mu Dan Pi (cortex moutan radicis)…3g
  • Tao Ren (semen persica)…9-15g
  • Dong Gua Ren (semen benincasae hispidae)…15-30g
     

Indications: lower abdominal distension and pain on the right that increases with pressure, very tender, thin yellow greasy tongue coat, slippery rapid pulse, may also be a mass in the lower abdomen, irregular intermittent fever followed by chills and sweating.

 

Yi Yi Fu Zi Bai Jiang San

  • expels pus & reduces swelling, intestinal abscess without fever
  • Jin Gui Yao Lue
  • Yi Yi Ren (semen coicis lachryma-jobi)…24-30g
  • Fu Zi (radix lateralis aconite carmichaeli praeparata)…6-9g
  • Bai Jiang Cao (herba baijiangcao)…15-18g
     

Indications: fully formed intestinal abscess without fever, scaly skin due to internal constraint leading to stagnation of the Ying Qi which results in dry blood on the surface, taut skin around the abdomen that is soft to the touch, rapid pulse.
